A New, Improved Unity

It’s been a year like none other. Board, staff and parents are experiencing changes in  Unity’s program that are unparalleled. The seeds for growth and change we have recently experienced were laid last year as vision for the future took hold among many committees and groups.

Early last year Unity’s leadership put its energies into  corporate efforts to grow the school. Since April 2007 the school has hosted three Open Houses, resulting in 47 new students. That K-12 increase represents a 38% in enrollment.

In addition to intense admissions efforts, the administration addressed a better library, expanded programs and an academic support center for the junior – senior high school. This made for an interesting and busy summer as we hired new faculty and renovated one of Unity’s buildings.

Months of meetings, a $39,000 grant from an area foundation, as well as a focused vision resulted in the following improvements in Unity:
o A new Academic Support Center with a certified special education teacher
o A new Media Center with 13 computers, SMART board, and licensed librarian
o A full-time English-Spanish teacher
o Online instruction for high school classes
o Combined first and second grade classes separated into self-contained classes
o A full-time second grade teacher
o 50 ‘new’ lockers in the secondary facility, 6 lunch tables, 70 new student desks
o A ‘new’ English classroom
o Air-conditioned secondary classrooms
o Degreed, experienced educator as an elementary aid and librarian
o A growing pre-school and day care (see Super News in the Knight Knews)

Unity’s administration interviewed over 40 families during the summer with about half of them added to an increasingly committed group of Unity Christian parents. The board has regrouped (see board news) to put ideas and energies to work that make both immediate and long-term differences in the quality of education and growth of the school. Unity’s mission continues to be the banner under which this work is done. Give thanks to the Lord with us for the blessings we are enjoying today.

Stop by. We’ll be glad to show you around!
