Over a Century of Teaching Honored
Mrs. Milton, Mr. Schulz and Mr. Ritzema Receive Awards
A highlight of the 2000 Midwest Christian Teacher's Convention was honoring teachers who had served in Christian schools for both 25 and 35 years. Three of our faculty members were among scores of others who were celebrated by nearly 2000 Christian educators. Combined their years of experience in Christian schooling exceeds 100 years.
Mrs. Barb Milton joined over 70 Christian teachers with 25 years in Christian schools. She graduated from Northern Illinois University and began her career in Unity as a substitute teacher in 1976; she began full time in 1979. Mrs. Milton is in her 27th year teaching Unity's elementary students, book ending her career in the kindergarten classroom where she student taught.
Mr. Schulz (retired 2010) graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, in 1966, entered into education in 1966 and began at Unity in 1987, thus completing two decades in our school and 41 years in Christian education.
Mr. Ritzema received his 35 year award as well. He attended Clinton Community College from 1966-68, transferred to and graduated from Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA, in 1971. Mr. Ritzema received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota in 1982. He has served over half of his (now 36) years in administration as teaching principal in Inwood (IA) Christian School, Central Wisconsin Christian Schools in Waupun (WI), and superintendent of Unity since 2000.
We congratulate these Christian educators for their service in Unity and other Christian schools, and are grateful for their dedication, experience and love for Christ’s children. Thank you for all you do and for who you are!
