The Christmas season seems to rush in faster every year, doesn’t it? One minute we are finishing Thanksgiving leftovers, and the next we are caught up in the spectacle of the holidays. But in the midst of the hustle, I want to encourage us to pause. Christmas is the moment God’s infinite love reached down to us—a story of grace, humility, and hope. To truly understand this sacred time, let’s take a moment to meditate on the Word made flesh.
The Depth of Humility – Our story doesn’t start in a palace, but in obscurity. The Lord of Creation clothed Himself in the vulnerability of a baby, born in a manger because there was no room for Him in the inn. This act of self-emptying love is the very foundation of our faith—God meeting us exactly where we are, even in the mess.
Philippians 2:6-8 “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”
The Wonder of His Presence – The angels announced a name that changes everything: Immanuel, “God with us.” Christ’s birth is the ultimate assurance that we are never alone. He didn’t watch from afar; He came to dwell among us, breathing our air and walking our soil, so that we might have abundant life.
John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
The Priceless Gift of Hope – The arrival of Christ signaled a victory over darkness that still rings true today. Sometimes reality crashes into our perfect pictures of the holidays, but this good news offers us a joy and thankfulness that endures long after the decorations are packed away. It is the gift of eternal life and a hope that cannot be shaken.
Luke 2:10-11 “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”
A Moment of Stillness – This week, set aside a quiet moment to simply be with God. Read the Christmas story in Luke 2, not just as a familiar tradition, but as a personal message of love addressed to you.
Lord, let the goodness of Your love stir up a profound thankfulness within us. May we know Your presence deeply this week.
Have a blessed and meaningful Christmas season!
For HIS Glory,
Jessica Hollewell
