The Chase for Excellence
In our daily walk, we are often reminded of the “chase”—the pursuit of a goal with all our might. The Apostle Paul compares this to a race where we are called to run in such a way as to get the prize. But what does that prize look like for each of us?
Striving for excellence is a universal calling for Christians, yet the expression of that excellence is as unique as the gifts God has given us. While our culture often measures success through straight As, college degrees, or specific career paths, God’s standard is different. He calls us to take whatever our hands find to do—whether that is teaching, coaching, art, athletics, or service—and do it with all our heart as if working for Him.
Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
Excellence looks different for each person regardless of age. Some students show excellence through Bs and Cs; some adults show excellence by serving. The best grades or a college degree does not equate to excellence. God has blessed each of us with different talents, and we are to pursue using those to the best of our ability. Excellence isn’t about being the same as everyone else; it’s about being intentional with the specific talents you’ve been given. Let’s make sure that we don’t fall into the comparison trap, but see our own path (or student’s path) to striving for excellence.
For HIS Glory,
