Track is Back at Unity Christian in 2008
Even though Unity has not had a high school track team since 1998, there are 38 athletes, grades 6-12, participating in track this spring. After the first three meets were cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather, there was a question as to whether or not there would be a 2008 track season. Fortunately, all three teams (junior high, high school girls, and high school boys) have now competed in their first track meet. A very young varsity girl’s team, led by the sprinters, started things off last Wednesday at the Gateway Classic. The junior high team had their first meet at Northeast on Monday. The varsity boy’s team, led by a solid core of upperclassmen, kicked off their season with a big late-night meet in Clinton on Tuesday. Since these meets were first-ever track meets for most of Unity’s athletes, they were a learning experience. The coaching staff (Coach Behr, Coach Pluister and Coach Wessels) is very encouraged by the start that the track team has had, and is looking forward to what the rest of the season will bring.
