Jr. High Scholastic Bowl Teams take Tournament Honors
Our Junior High students popped the top by taking First and Second Place honors in the area Scholastic Bowl Tournament in Chadwick last Thursday.
The 7th grade team won a very close first round against Chadwick that came down to the last two questions (pushing ahead with a question on cartoon characters). In the final round against West Carroll, all four players buzzed in and participated. By the end of the game we came up short, but proudly took home the Second Place trophy. Especially noteworthy was the large disadvantage our team of four had competing against West Carroll’s team of five. Well done, 7th graders!
Unity’s 8th graders won their first round against Chadwick handily. However, as our 10-member team entered the final round, we were a bit nervous; we were defending last year’s First Place honors. While leading most of the first half (knowing baseball helps), the last question stumped us. Now down by only 10 points, our second five subbed in to watch the final ten questions. We tied the score with three questions left. No one knew the next two, so it was down to the final question. Spelling: Spell ‘absolutely’. Bam! Collin buzzed in A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y (with a few heart-wrenching pauses). With that and the bonus questions that our team answered on the light, we won the 1st place trophy for the second year in a row! jk
Congratulations to both Scholastic Bowl teams (and Coach Kotman)!
