LITTLE HOOPS 2012

I’m excited to be able to direct the Little Hoops program this year. As a high school coach I have seen the difference learning the fundamentals correctly can make in a players development and future. I’ll make every effort to teach them in a correct and fun way.

Our Little Hoops schedule is as follows:

Saturday Jan 7^th 9:00 – 10:30

Saturday Jan 14^th 9:00 – 10:30

Saturday Jan 21^st 9:00 – 10:30

Saturday Jan 28^th 9:00 – 10:30

Saturday Feb 4^th 9:00 – 10:30

Saturday Feb 11^th 9:00 – 10:30

If a week is cancelled due to weather, it will not be made up.

I would also like to make you aware of the following dates:

Friday Jan 13^th is Elementary School Night. Although this is not Little Hoops related, your child will be receiving a ticket for free admission to the game and will be receiving a Unity Christian drinking cup for attending the game. We hope to see you all there.

The Little Hoops players will then be playing at the following times.

Friday, Jan 20^th – They will play before the girls game from approximately 5:25 – 5:45 and then at half time of both games.

Friday, Jan 27^th – This is the Homecoming game for Unity. They will play before the girl’s game from approximately 4:25 – 4:45 and at half time of the girl’s game. At half time of the boy’s game the Unity cheerleaders will be performing.

Friday Feb 10^th – They will play some time during the Faculty basketball game. More details later.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me. Game participation is strictly optional, but I know from past years both the kids and the crowd really enjoy these games.

The Little Hoops Program is intended to acquaint elementary school students with the fundamentals of basketball and serve as an opportunity to put these skills to practice in a low-key, intramural type game setting.

Little Hoops sessions are held on Saturday mornings at the secondary gym generally running for five or six-weekly sessions beginning in January.  Any elementary student, grades 3rd-6th may participate in the program regardless of past experience in the sport.

The first two weeks of the program are devoted to direct instruction and skill development.  The remaining sessions will be devoted actual game play.  Each 'hoopster' is guaranteed equal playing time, regardless of skill level.
