We will be practicing for our chapel program on May 21. We will also examine Jeremiah 29:11 to see how God has a plan for each of us. We will learn how we are a promise and a possibility.

Reading
The last unit of selections this year is all about Our Country and Its People. We will be reading a historical fiction piece about immigrants. We will learn to use correct form when writing a letter. We will practice writing directions and using position words. Please remember to send a recipe for our class recipe book.
Science
As we finish our science studies this year, we will be learning a little about the solar system. We will learn that "For by Him were all things created that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible, and invisible." Colossians 1:16
Social Studies
In conjunction with our study of immigrants in reading we are also studying the different countries our ancestors came from to build America. We will be coloring flags and children of different nations. This week we will study the countries of Ireland, and Sweden. From our interviews we have written stories about how our ancestors came to this country. The stories are very well done and represent a lot of new skills that the second graders have learned this year. At the end of our unit we will be making a book of the children from different countries that we studied as well as these "One Nation Under God" stories.
Notes
Many thanks for all the kind expressions of appreciation this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. I felt so blessed by the special lunches on Tuesday and Thursday, the desserts on Tuesday evening at the association meeting, and all the gifts you have sent. I truly enjoy every day I spend with your children and I appreciate your support and encouragement from home.
