Unity Christian high school upper-classmen art students did a great job at the Clinton Community College Art Day on Friday, April 15. Eleven juniors and seniors attended the event which included seven other area high schools. “This is a one-of-a-kind event where students get to show their work and be judged against students from other area high schools and attend art workshops for the day.” said Mrs. Readdy, Unity Art teacher. “I couldn’t be prouder of them, both in their behavior and in their talents.” Unity students took a majority of the awards for art and swept the clay sculpture category. Hailie Jungen took 1st place for clay sculpture, Becca Meinema took 2nd place for clay sculpture and 2nd place for scratch-art drawing of the Eifel Tower and Crystal Abbott took 3rd place for clay sculpture and 1st place for her scratch-art drawing of Amelia Earhart. Jordan Hirl took 3rd place for drawing with her pointillism project. Heather Hintz and Kayle Tomman took 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, for painting in which both painted beautiful sunsets. JohnRyan Bajema won a three-credit CCC art scholarship. The winning artwork is on display at Unity Christian High school until the end of the month.
There is a tradition that began with some of our art students several years ago; the Happy Joe's triangular pizza-box sculpture. The students created this sculpture after eating the pizza, and the Unity group was pretty excited when they won with their Transformer creation.
